Abstract :

The interaction between two neighboring swimmers forms the basis of the collective dynamics observed in a school of fish in nature. I will discuss different aspects of our recent work on swimmer-to-swimmer interactions, in which we have designed experiments with real fish or with simple robotic models, as well as numerical simulations, to examine the issues of swimmer synchronization, pattern formation, and energy expenditure, examining the most basic interactions between a pair of neighboring swimmers.
