Texts in fluid mechanics consider often a few typical situations of turbulent flows that are inhomogeneous and anisotropic. Various laws for them are derived relying on order of magnitude estimates. I shall revisit some of these laws by using a recently proposed closure relating the turbulent stress tensor and the average velocity field. I’ll detail a bit the classical examples of the far wakes, of the mixing layer and of the Poiseuille plane flow. I will draw some conclusions for future research in this very interesting field.
