phd position :Experimental study of agitation and bubble population in a coalescent confined bubble cloud
Research project description:
The aim of the proposed experimental study is to develop a detailed knowledge of the mechanisms that govern agitation in a general sense and bubble sizes, when coalescence and/or rupture occur(s), in clouds of bubbles moving at high Reynolds numbers in a liquid at rest that is confined in a thin cell.
This study is of scientific interest and may have practical applications in engineering. The development of models, particularly Lagrangian models, of rupture and coalescence is relevant to all process engineering applications related to the use of bubble columns. A better understanding of this type of confined flow can also improve the design rules of high-performance photobioreactors for algae cultivation [1] or of reactors for carbon capture [2].
