In many industrial or environmental situations, particles, drops or bubbles are dispersed in a carrier fluid. Understanding and modeling dispersed flows is therefore a major issue for many applications including : Nuclear industry (boiling in steam generators, containment spray systems), Environmental engineering (Sediment transport, coastal erosion, river restauration), Chemical engineering (bubble columns, water treatment, fluidized beds, oil refining) and Combustion applications (atomization, spray combustion)…


The objective of the conference is to bring together researchers of different communities (academics and researchers from industrial research institutes in fluid mechanics, in chemical engineering …) working on fundamental problems involving dispersed flows.

Contributions of work in progress are welcome. English will be the language of the conference in order to open discussion to European colleagues.

The conference will be held at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Electrotechnique, d’Electronique, d’Informatique, d’Hydraulique et des Télécommunications of Toulouse, France. It will last three days (September 17-19 2018) and consist of a single session with about 60 selected oral presentations (20minutes), with time outside the formal session for participants to meet and discuss.

Topics Experimental, numerical and theoretical studies will be presented on the following topics :

  • Dynamics and Transfer around isolated particles,
  • Interfacial dynamics (deformation, coalescence and rupture),
  • Hydrodynamics of dispersed flows (Turbulence, Dispersion, two-way coupling),
  • Mixing, Transfers and phase-change in dispersed flows,
  • Transport in dispersed flows at high volume fraction
  • Complex dispersed flows : density/viscosity stratification, granular & non-Newtonian flows
  • Development of experimental methods,
  • Development of numerical methods,
  • Multiscale, Multiphysics modeling

Abstract submission deadline : June 1st, 2018 (1 page abstract)

Notification of acceptance : July 1st, 2018

If you intend to submit a contribution to the journal La Houille Blanche (, please submit a supplementary manuscript (recommended length is 6 pages, in English or in French).
